Clay Beads - Six Steps to Getting Started

So you have decided that you want to get into working with clay beads in order to make jewelry, start a small business, or work on other various projects. But how do you get started? This is a great question to ask and a valid one as beginning in this hobby can be quite overwhelming at first. In this article though I will give you six simple steps to help you get started on the right foot and get the maximum enjoyment out of this hobby.

1. Decide what your goal is.- You need to decide what your goal is in this. Is this just a general hobby to bring your pleasure and relaxation or are you looking to own a small business. This decision needs to be made first as it will guide everything else you do in the rest of the steps.

2. Get some support.- Working with clay beads can be overwhelming. There are a lot of them out there and a lot of things you can do with them. Then if you are going to run a small business it can be even more overwhelming. This is why I encourage to find at least one person, preferably more who you can talk to, ask questions, and bounce ideas off of as you get started in this venture.

3. Get your supplies.- Now you get to begin the fun stuff. You get to go and find the supplies you need. What you will need will vary on what your purposes and goals are in this hobby. If you are making jewelry there are specific tools you will need. If you are running a small business there are a plethora of other things that you will need. Either way just do your homework and use your support system to help you.

4. Build your inventory.- Now you can begin purchasing your clay beads. Again, if you are running a small business you will have a different set of goals and a different set of questions you will want to ask yourself. But if you are merely into this as a hobby then I suggest buying a wide variety and try to buy things in bulk. This will both save you money and give you a lot more to work with.

5. Decide how to store them.- How you store these little works of art is up to you. I would look for an option that works in your budget and meets your needs. The real key here is just to keep everything neat and organized while also keeping everything very accessible. If you can do this you will enjoy this hobby a whole lot more.

6. Always keep learning.- This is a never ending process. These steps will get you started but you need to continue to talk to others, read books, search the internet, and attend classes so you can continue to grow and enjoy your hobby or small business more and more.
